ARAC Annual Meetings 2019

After much planning, ARAC has held very successfully its seventh Annual Meetings in Tunis, Tunisia from the 8th to 13th September 2019 hosted by the Tunisian Accreditation Council [TUNAC]. The program including Regional Workshops and committees and GA meetings was as follows:

  • 08th September 2019: 5th meeting of the ARAC MLA Group,
  • 09th September 2019: ARAC Peer Evaluators Regional Workshop on the implementation of the new/revised requirements of ISO/IEC 17011:2017,
  • 10th September 2019: ARAC MLA, Technical and Communication & Marketing  and Executive Committees meetings,
  • 10th September 2019: ARAC Regional Workshop for ARAC Committees members on Risk Management in Accreditation of Conformity Assessment Bodies,
  • 11th September 2019: ARAC MLA, Technical and Communication & Marketing  and Executive Committees meetings,
  • 11th September 2019: ARAC Regional Workshop for ARAC Committees members on IAF Mandatory Document IAF MD 17:2019 “ Witnessing Activities for the Accreditation of Management Systems Certification Bodies”,
  • 12st September 2019: ARAC General Assembly meeting,
  • 13st September 2019: ARAC Accreditation Bodies Partnership event.

 

The meetings brought together more than 70 participants from the Arab Accreditation Bodies. It was also pleasing to welcome delegates from accreditation bodies from other regions as well as the Chair & Vice Chair of African Accreditation Cooperation [AFRAC] and The Southern African Development Community Cooperation in Accreditation [SADCA], the Secretary General Deputy of The Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries [SMIIC], the General Director of the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization [AIDMO], the representatives of the League of Arab States [LAS] and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization [UNIDO].

 

In addition, ARAC was honored by the presence and the statement made by the Tunisian Ministry of Industry & Small Medium & Enterprises during the opening session of the General Assembly meeting on 12th September 2019.

 

Significant achievements were made at these meetings mainly the following:

 

  • Decision to extend the ARAC MLA scope to cover the Accreditation of Conformity Assessment Bodies certifying the competence of persons;
  • Setup a Task force Group to finalize the development of the ARAC membership procedure for ensuring ARAC financial sustainability;
  • Acceptance of TUNAC’s offer for hosting ARAC Secretariat & registration of ARAC as a legal entity in Tunisia,
  • Establishment of the ARAC Capacity Building program based on the conducted survey;
  • Launching of the first ARAC Proficiency Testing program that will be implemented under the auspice of ARAC;
  • Preparation for upcoming Peer evaluation of ARAC that will be conducted by IAF and ILAC;
  • Decision to apply for a scope extension of its recognition by IAF in order to include the product Certification;
  • A great number of resolutions have been endorsed by the General Assembly members, the most outstanding of which is related to the change of the Full membership category, with the aim to encourage the ARAC non signatories Full members to apply for the ARAC MLA signatory status:

“General Assembly approves the Executive Committee's decision concerning the amendment of the ARAC membership categories in the ARAC Bylaws as following:

  • The ARAC full membership will be only for signatories,
  • In order to maintain the full membership status, set a transition time frame for the current ARAC non signatory full members as following:
    • Apply to join the ARAC MLA within 18 months from the date of this decision,
    • Get the ARAC MLA signatory status before the end of three years from the date of the endorsement of this resolution.”
